This course provides students with knowledge and skills to use information communication technology to generate, interpret and use biological data. By the end of the course students should be able to: Use of bioinformatics software to generate, interpret and use biological data; conduct simple pairwise and multiple alignment and search for similar sequences using BLAST and PHI/PSI BLAST. Topics studied include: The operating environment, Sequence data banks search tools, Introduction to database searching and sequence analysis software, Sequence comparison and similarity searching, Sequence motifs and feature, Phylogeny, Tools for support of laboratory techniques and Genome databases and integrated databases.
