Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing course introduces students to the principles and applications of GIS and remote sensing in environmental management. The course develops practical skills in spatial data collection, management, analysis, visualisation, and digital image processing using software such as QGIS and ArcGIS. Students will work with Malawi spatial datasets and undertake practical exercises including GNSS data collection, digitising, georeferencing, spatial analysis, map production, land use and land cover classification and change detection, accuracy assessment, NDVI mapping, and site suitability analysis. The course prepares students to apply geospatial technologies to environmental monitoring, analysis, planning, and decision-making.
